Cumberland Fire Department Health and Safety Committee July 8, 2008 The meeting was called to order. Members present were Dunn, Growden, Ratliff, D. Winters, Koelker, and Brown (CBIZ). Dunn reported that safety glasses have been received and ready to be issued. Winters reported that SWR foot wear will be ordered within the week. It was agreed that HSC minutes will be posted on the Fire Departments bulletin board and Local 1715’s web site. Discussion was held on the communication room chairs. The HSC will investigate and recommend a chair. Discussion was held the Supervisors First Report of Injury Form layout and the need for training on how to fill it out. C. Brown will review the form for needed changes and put together training for the Captains and Deputy Chiefs. Discussion was held on the need for policies/procedures for beriatric patients. In the near future we will have a beriatric transport ambulance in service and it alone does not answer all of the questions. Discussion was held on the need for our reserve engines to by equipped for service without having to transfer equipment. Dunn reported that the Public Safety Building fire alarm was in-service per CFM 1 Rogers. Discussion was held on an issue with the parking brake not being set on M344. The HSC feels this was an isolated case that does not need any changes in policy/procedure. Discussion was held and the HSC recommends that rear view mirrors be installed in 370 and 344. This will allow the driver to monitor conditions in the patient compartment should the EMS provider need assistance if the patient’s condition worsens or becomes combative. Brown presented the latest Fire Department Losses Report. The next meeting is scheduled for August 4, 2008 at 0830 in HDQS.
